Abruzzo in Spring – Photo Trip Report

I like running my photography workshops in early spring. Especially in Abruzzo. It’s a magical time of the year. You can expect different weather conditions.

There is still snow on the mountains and you can still meet skiers on the route. At the same time, beautiful vivid colors and a fresh fragrance begin to be visible.

This year I spent some time there in March. And it was beautiful time.

1. CAMPO IMPERATORE

Campo Imperatore is a beautiful mountain plateau located in the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park. It is often referred to as “Italy’s Little Tibet” due to its unique landscape and stunning views.

The plateau covers an area of around 27 square kilometers and you can find here many photographic locations.

2. SEASIDE

But Abruzzo is not only this. It offers a lot more for photographers. This spring we also managed to travel to the seaside.

You know me more as a mountain landscape photographer. That is true, I usually find mountain landscapes more interesting. But I knew I wanted to have this seaside image in my portfolio.

Medieval architecture is also prevalent in Abruzzo, with many castles and fortresses dotted throughout the region. One of the most famous is the Castello di Rocca Calascio, a mountaintop fortress. It offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside

4. MOUNTAIN VILLAGES

And last but not least. Wonderful small italian villages.

Abruzzo is home to many examples of traditional rural architecture. The region’s small villages are often characterized by their stone houses with red-tiled roofs, narrow alleyways, and picturesque courtyards.
